The Play
Winner of a Fringe First in 1982, The play traces both the truth and lies surrounding the Macbeths.
Fringe Firsts are awarded by the Scotman's theatre critics to an outstanding original work performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in its premiere production.
As the play's fictional Shakespeare says
What interests me is not the history but the man… Give that man poetry & rich imagination, then sell his soul to the devil & let him communicate.
The actors wander through five centuries, playing four parts each, as they explore historical fact mixed with fictional fable. For as the plays' real King Macbeth says
A man must find his fable, and kill it with his truth.
Versions
The play was originally written as a full three-act play which runs at around 75 mins. This was awarded a Fringe First at Edinburgh in 1982.
A 'one-act' version was recently created and first performed by the Brussels Shakespeare Society at FEATS 2006. This version runs at 45 mins.

It’s pretty funny (I directed it in 1990 with a youth theatre group that included a very young Dave Gorman). [...]

Macbethseems from my perpestive very violent but seems to have a moral behind the brutal cutting of people . Apart from all that it is an interesting play and well thought out .
